|
I have just lived through a pretty crazy week with an awesome ending!
Tuesday, we lost all power for about 8 1/2 hours as did the entire town. I work third shift so I didn't know we had lost power until I woke up at approximately 3:30 pm and I later found out that we'd lost power about 11:30 am. My husband Mike knows I get a little crazy worrying about the tank and brought home a generator from his work about 5:30. Being in a dark and cold house with lots of water with no heat or movement for over 5 hours will make you crazy for sure! We got the main pump working along with the tank heaters and I gave up and went to bed, rather depressed and exhausted. The power came back on about 8:30 pm and nothing really looked too bad so I hoped for the best.
The next day I had a job interview early in the morning in Peoria and when I got home I noticed that one of the three bulbs over my main tank was cracked and not working (I can see a big water splash mark where the crack is.) Great, I had to work the next couple of days and there was nothing I could do about it. (Note to self, have an extra bulb on hand.)
Today I got a call that I got the job in Peoria at St Francis Medical Center!! A DAY job , yea!!! Hopefully, I'll get my life back as I change from third shift to first shift after the first of the year. I'm pretty happy today and I just had to share it!! What a week! |

| Congrats!!! I got my life back about 3 years ago when I made that switch. It is soooo nice to be "normal". Third shift does weird things to your body, mind and social/family life. |

Congrats on the new job. How far a drive is that for you?
So what was your "power outage" backup plan before it happend? I would think with that big of a tank and all the equipment that you would have had a backup generator at your home already.. Its that time of year to start thinking about power outages. |

| Congrats on the new job Robyn. I'm glad everything but a bulb was ok. A fish probably got mad and splashed it. |

Some people can work third shift and love it. I feel like I've "survived" it the last year. I can't wait to get back to normal!! |

Thanks! I drive 30 mins each way now and it will be an hour each way, but 3 twelve hour shifts as I'm doing now, but on the opposite end.
A backup generator would be nice but not really in the budget this week I have a converter that runs off my car presently but that is only a small bandaid to keep things alive by running a pump for a few minutes each hour or so (I had to use it once last year.) A better emergency plan is definately something we have to look at for the future. |

I have a generator for just that reason. Considering what we put into our tanks I felt that $500 is cheap to keep the system going in a power outage. I would rather keep my tank going instead of the 'fridge if I had to choose one. I've got a lot more money in my aquarium. Try explaining a crashed tank to an insurance company-YIKES! And if you can afford it get a whole house Generac system they run off off natural gas or propane. That way everything in your home will still work. _________________

Do you think we could get a club generator ? (he he, j/k) I am going to give it a lot of consideration Ken. I would think it better money spent than a chiller? (kinda crazy when you think about the hazzards of the temperatures)
thanks Eric! I was thinking about you today and that beautiful baby. How goes daddy-dom? |

Oh I so envy you and your new DAY job!! I'm working 12 hour night shift. I really hate it. Not the job itself, just the hours.. And I am not one to sleep during the day, so I live on a couple hours of sleep on the days that I do work.
I would love to find a job that has normal hours.
So what kind of job did you get? Hope you like your new job and congrats!! |

Live a normal life for me too Robyn! Mine has been a little crazy lately
I appreciate the thoughts and the daddy thing is moving along and I am enjoying it. Other than what seems like growth spurts (2 so far) he is pretty well mannered and sleeps a reasonable amount. Mommy and me are enjoying the time together and preparing for the 4 hour ride tomorrow (we are headed back to Iowa for 2 weeks).
Have a wonderful Christmas and hopefully this job is everything you expect! |
